Reduced IT costs are in large part a result of
an overall reduction in IT labor expenses. A thin-client workstation being
fed an application remotely via ASP need only be equipped with a shell
operating system and a Citrix client (hence the term "thin").
Desk-side support visits for system problems, hard drive crashes, virus's,
errors, user generated problems and device failures are therefore reduced
or eliminated. The net result is either a reassignment of IT personnel
to other, more mission critical, responsibilities, or a reduction in IT
staff and salaries.
Because thin-client hardware is less than half
the cost of fat-client hardware, migrating to ASP means reduced hardware
costs. Implementing an application via ASP also does not require the deployment
of new servers, nor is it necessary to upgrade network resources like
routers, hubs or switches, since those resources are not additionally
taxed by the ASP.
